Nel 1979 la ref. 1680 è sostituita dal nuovo Rolex Submariner ref. 16800, dotato per la prima volta del vetro in zaffiro e del nuovo movimento cal. 3035 con scatto rapido del datario.
Altra novità è la ghiera girevole unidirezionale, che garantisce maggiore sicurezza in caso di spostamenti accidentali.
Inizialmente il quadrante è di tipo “matt” con indici a pallettoni, sostituito attorno alla metà degli anni ’80 con la più moderna versione “a bicchierini”.
Questo bellissimo esemplare porta un quadrante opaco di transizione con una patina del tempo piacevole ed omogenea.
La lunetta “ghost” aumenta il fascino rendendo l’orologio nell’insieme ancora più armonioso.

Another new feature is the unidirectional rotating bezel, which provides greater security in case of accidental movement.
Initially the dial was of the “matt” type with pallettoni hour markers, replaced around the mid-1980s with the more modern “bicchierini” version.
